CIA: Parsing The Panetta Pick
To say Panetta is a Clinton retread is to ignore his actual background. He comes out of a tradition which is almost forgotten today, that of the liberal Republican.

Placing an inexperienced person like Leon Panetta at CIA for his clean hands and "managerial expertise" will cost lives on the day of the next domestic terrorist attack.
Leaving transition work, I find myself a lot more hopeful about generally progressive policy coming out of the Obama administration than some of my friends in the progressive blogosphere.
Leon Panetta certainly understands intelligence. But, most importantly, he understands the importance of our intelligence apparatus operating on the moral, ethical, and legal high ground.
Obama comes into office with a clear election mandate, and the last thing he needs is the public view of a bunch of squabbling Democrats (see: Burris, Roland) doing the GOP's work for it.
The next time you find yourself getting pissed off at Obama, say these words out loud,"George Bush."
All political realignments are produced by the coming of age of a dynamic generation and the emergence of a new communication technology that effectively mobilizes the rising generation.
Leon Panetta is an "unconventional" choice for CIA Director, a word Caroline Kennedy used to describe herself, but consider the corruption inherent in the more conventional options.
At the CIA I knew, the consequences for taking a day of sick leave adjacent to a weekend were far greater than the consequences of say, leaving classified documents in the back of a rental car.
Here is one Democrat's assessment of who might be seated around the Cabinet Room table shortly after January 20, 2009 if Obama is elected president.
Leo Hindery, who was an economic advisor to the Obama campaign and authored the interesting book It Takes a CEO, is a real stand out who the Obama team should consider for Commerce.
That huge sucking sound you hear is Republicans trying to control their laughter. The two groups duking it out over education are largely within the Democratic Party.

this is another joke, if he didn't do anything wrong, why has he backed down from this offer? really, when he dumbed clinton, that was not good for his character. although, carville was totally out of line what he said.
now richardson finally shaved off his beard (looked like a Mexican bandit) now he needs to get a haircut (go to Edwards barber for $400, it looks like he cuts his own hair) and desperately needs to go on weight watchers.
Look you cannot be an honest person that follows the law and pays taxes and have enough money to run for these government jobs.
No honest man can come up with that much money.
That is why we are where we are today!
Read Greg Palast: "Bill Richardson - Kissinger-American"
He writes:
"....For years I've been investigating the second-most corrupt state in the USA (after Alaska). I like to check in on the enchanted state with my bud Santiago Juárez....."

Let me understand this correctly:
You fault him for helping a friend in trouble (Clinton) by moving Lewenski somewhere else away from the president... maybe to mitigate the damage to this country (and of course his friend).
Then you fault him for "stabbing the Clintons in the back. After he refused to endorse Hillary for some time.... perhaps a kind way of telling a friend that they are not right for the job. Then endorsing Obama, only after the Clinton attacks got so bad that he knew it had to stop. (some people Just can't take a hint).
What I see here is that someone realized that they couldn't bring Obama down.... so now we are firing up the machine against the next best thing, a guy who made the hard decision to try to let a friend down easy.
Aren't we all tired of people expecting favors in Washington, even when it does not serve this country.
I hope that Richardson is cleared... regardless of what happens in court, this article was an attack piece from people who expected power.
I don't understand why these people are making noises about Richardson endorsing Obama instead of Clinton. Not that it's a bad thing. I mean if he goes over the fence and had endorsed Mccain then maybe we can call him judas. Because by calling him judas for endorsing obama it's like saying "obama shouldn't have become a president, it's hilary's place". I hope Richardson's get cleared. It's not that he has never done anything good for the country. He probably has done more than the person who wrote this article.
wow... what about darfur? and north korea? if he was so dirty why did the clintons scream bloody murder when he went to obama? mr dunn you are enjoying this too much. doesnt make much sense., he was rotten but the clintons wanted him,...you dont make sense except to pile on. if your a historian we all are rightly screwed.
