If there is a better place for someone to start shaking up Washington, I can't think of a better place for Obama to begin than with those currently in high caterwaul about Panetta's appointment.
Laura Weiss, 01.06.2009
Whether it's for profits or patriotism, chefs are crafting food creations--from cupcakes to cocktails--to honor the incoming 44th president's historic January 20th inauguration.
Michael Shaw, 01.06.2009
With the country in a shambles, the media wouldn't want the Democrats getting off to a rocky start, would it?
Andy Ostroy, 01.06.2009
How should Israel attempt to protect its people, long-term, if it merely acts defensively in a tit-for-tat manner? That would be a horribly naïve response given its history.
William Bradley, 01.06.2009
To say Panetta is a Clinton retread is to ignore his actual background. He comes out of a tradition which is almost forgotten today, that of the liberal Republican.
Kristen Breitweiser, 01.06.2009
Placing an inexperienced person like Leon Panetta at CIA for his clean hands and "managerial expertise" will cost lives on the day of the next domestic terrorist attack.
Mike Lux, 01.06.2009
Leaving transition work, I find myself a lot more hopeful about generally progressive policy coming out of the Obama administration than some of my friends in the progressive blogosphere.
John McQuaid, 01.06.2009
I don't quite understand why Feinstein and Rockefeller are objecting to Obama's pick, Leon Panetta. As objections go, theirs are weak. There is no reason that the CIA director has to be an intelligence expert.
Jon Soltz, 01.06.2009
Leon Panetta certainly understands intelligence. But, most importantly, he understands the importance of our intelligence apparatus operating on the moral, ethical, and legal high ground.
Art Brodsky, 01.06.2009
Obama comes into office with a clear election mandate, and the last thing he needs is the public view of a bunch of squabbling Democrats (see: Burris, Roland) doing the GOP's work for it.
Tom D'Antoni, 01.06.2009
The next time you find yourself getting pissed off at Obama, say these words out loud,"George Bush."
David Sirota, 01.06.2009
Conservatives would like us all to believe their claim that history proves massive spending packages like the New Deal will supposedly harm our economy.
Cindy Handler, 01.06.2009
The reason that TV producers return to the well every time she comes out with a new book: they're betting that viewers won't be able to resist rubber-necking at this particular train wreck.
Tamar Abrams, 01.06.2009
In Istanbul last year, my daughter and I decided to pass as Canadians because it seemed easier. It was sad to "represent" a war I didn't support and a president I never voted for.
Trevor Neilson, 01.06.2009
Within the first months of his administration, President Obama should invite the leaders of the nation's top one hundred foundations and explicitly ask them to help him implement his agenda.
Alan Schram, 01.06.2009
What should be intuitively clear is that spending is no way to repair our woes. Indeed, spending irresponsibly is exactly what got us in the current lugubrious position.

Did we ever determine by how much Senator Feinstien has personally profited on the war in Iraq?
Tens of millions? Did she ever admit that glaring and shameful conflict of interest?
The only "fire" is in the corporate media and in feinstein's very active imagination. Panetta is an honorable person and he's certainly more qualified than the ship of fools that steered this country into flood waters for the last eight years.
sc rew her, he didn't ask her opinion because she said Port er G oss was a fine pick for the hedge, and the hedge should be able to chose anyone he wanted. And he did, a known crim inal
It's going to be fine, and he's going to be confirmed without a hitch. This is the last gasp of the frightened fake-Democrats.
