It's Judgment Day. Rubin needs to get a pink slip and stand on the unemployment line with the vast sea of people he helped put there.
"The most stressful moment is definitely the moments when he asks me for something and I know before I even start looking for it that I don't have it. But I still give a good search around for it."
For Obama, the Mumbai attacks mean that we are on the verge of another major geopolitical crisis, with enormous implications for our already deeply troubled programs in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The more editorial cartoonist Mike Luckovich sees of Barack Obama, the more he likes the President-elect. Oddly enough, this turn of events has the Pulitzer Prize winning artist very, very worried.
Eisenhower: 2 recessions; Nixon and Ford: 2 recessions; Reagan: 1 recession; George H.W. Bush: 1 recession; George W. Bush: 2 recessions; Democrats: 1 recession. Eight to one, you decide.
If there is a grand arc to Obama's appointments strategy, it seems aimed at providing the appearance of continuity on the part of a leader who still promises to be very different.
I am confident that Mr. Obama will work to end the ban on lesbians and gays serving openly in the military. Why am I so confident? Because Barack Obama said so.
I'm giving a speech on Monday about authentic leadership - with references to President-elect Obama sprinkled liberally throughout - to an association...
Until now, Lewinsky was one of the few high-profile figures from the Clinton Presidency who had not been recruited for the incoming Obama team.
Sarah Palin: if the stars misalign and you remain a national figure, it would be helpful for you to have at least a cursory understanding of the Constitution and political and economic issues.
Obama ended up not just winning, but trouncing his opponent. And a month later, Hillary Clinton, his arch-nemesis, was named with the Secretary of State.
Kevin Federline accused Britney Spears of being one. But who's really a sex addict, and does it matter?
On many of the major foreign policy issues of the day, Sen. Clinton is, in effect, asking us to take on faith that she has the right policy approaches because, as she asserts, she has the experience to lead.
This was the first Thanksgiving ever where the turkey pardoned the President.
Winners: The Davids - Axelrod and Plouffe: they spearheaded a near flawless campaign. Katie Couric: her multi-part interview with Sarah Palin was the turning point in how the country saw Palin -- and by extension John McCain. And she did it in a way that left no room for accusations of being unfair or playing "Gotcha!" Michelle Obama: smarts, grace, style, charm, and a serious "good mommy" vibe -- she's got the whole package. Losers: Joe Lieberman: failed to deliver Democrats, independents, or Jews. And on the way to losing his committee chairmanships. Liddy Dole: her "Godless" ad will be taught in What Not To Do poli sci classes for a century. Joe the Plumber: the clock just hit 15 minutes, and the wakeup call will not be pleasant.

Personally, I would like to see Pelosi and Reid on the list twice each. Leadership? Sheeze. Reminds me of Larry Niven's Pierson's Puppeteers. Leadership from the rear. Cowardice is a virtue. Sheeze!!
My Sayonara list:
1 Zbigniew Brzezinski.
2, Zbigniew Brzezinski.
3. Volker.
4-10. Everyone else who was involved in the Carter's catastrophic economic policy.
If i may play Devil's advocate for a moment...Cohen's list presupposes that the Democratic Party is political monolithic like their GOP rivals. It isn't. The Democratic Party is in fact a coalition of interests that includes fiscal conservatives, hawks, progressives, and social libertarians to name a few. As far as i know, Democrats don't have a heavy like Delay running around threatening party members with loss their seats if they don't vote according to dictates of party leadership.
That said...I agree that Reid and Pelosi have both been very ineffective. I understand what Pelosi tried to accomplish by avoiding impeachment but she made a mistake. The price for letting this administration off the hook was too high and she should have forced a vote before the election. Had she done that Democrats might have a real mandate for change instead of what they have, which is a tepid push to the left.
