Barack Obama understands what it will take to improve our schools, turn around our economy, and he knows that teachers and unions are part of the solution, not part of the problem.
Stephen C. Rose, 11.29.2008
It now seems possible that Barack's formidable organization might end up with a direct line into the White House.

As the manager of Obama's campaign, Plouffe steered the best-run presidential campaign in years. He efficiently matched man, message, money, and machine.

Last week a mix of water and sanitation experts gathered for World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden to mull over the world's biggest public health crisis. The problem is that not enough people paid attention.

KRISTOL: Other than the words and speaking style, this speech could have been given by anyone
Chris Weigant, 08.27.2008
Hillary made the case she needed to make to her supporters who were still sitting on the fence, and she did it perfectly, in a speech for the ages.
Howard Winant, 11.06.2008
Obama's win hardly puts an end to this system of racism, but it's still momentous, because it shows us a way forward, a way to reduce if not eliminate racial injustice and inequality.

The DNC has committed an act of war. YouTube darling Harriet Christian fired back bullets of passion. Pretty? No. But she revealed the depth of frustration many people are feeling right now. That she did.

I'm concerned as to how the traditional media will frame Barack Obama. If the cover of TIME's convention preview is any indication, we're in trouble.

What now? Our primary goal is to unite the millions of disaffected Democrats and to hold the DNC and its leadership accountable this November and beyond, working to defeat key players and create fairer elections.

Obama's strength is and has been the degree to which he promises a break from the way we've come to understand national politics. That is the opposite of the stage-managed convention.
Nora Ephron, 08.27.2008
The Clintons' narcissism perfumed every bit of Hillary's campaign, and it leaked down to her contributors and followers. "Were you in it for me?" was the funniest line of her speech.
John Beebe, 10.28.2008
These portraits were taken in the chaotic heart of the Colorado Convention Center during the DNC. They reveal the faces of people who know that hope is much harder to hold onto than fear.
Marty Kaplan, 08.29.2008
For the right-wing commentariat, Peggy Noonan's snark this morning was a Katrina moment. It was a benchmark for how out of it and, well, disgusting, that crowd is.

Still trying to get ideas on sending Oprah a gift. I make Rhinestone shirts and have beautiful Obama designs! I want to give a couple of the shirts to Oprah and Gayle since they will be attending the convention and have rented a house in Denver. Does anybody out there know how I can get them some shirts? My daughter is a reporter traveling with Obama and I might be able to arrange a hand off of some sort. www.sexyobamashirts.com Thanks!
I suppose she'll be making some kind of human interest slot for her show. She isn't a politician, and won't try to be, but through her show, she still has tremendous influence, and she'll use it to humanize politics. May interview Michelle O about Michelle's role at the convention, or something along the line - making it obvious that the people claiming that M is "angry" or "cold" or "hotheaded" or "mad" have no idea what they're talking about. And that would be of a greater importance than any wannabe-politician kind of act in the convention itself.
Why is Oprah so afraid to admit that she is gay?
I seriously doubt Oprah's gay. She's had many male lovers in her youth (including the guy who tried to write a tell all book about how they lived together for 5 months and did crack). She was also a promiscuous teen who had a baby at 14.
