Democrats' ambivalence about aggression has been as much their downfall in prior elections as their irrational commitment to rationality -- their belief that good ideas sell themselves.

When the Secretary of State page went up on November 5th and the bets started to be laid down on Intrade, there was a large number, relatively, of initial bets placed on Hillary for Secretary of State.

With the post-election analysis season almost over, it's worth taking one final look at some of the characters who ensured President-elect Obama would make it to the White House.
Steve Clemons, 11.12.2008
Obama should look to Cheney to understand how a pro -- even one who so damaged the interests of the nation -- managed power and purpose in government.
Jacob Heilbrunn, 11.14.2008
If Obama asks Hillary Clinton to be secretary of state, it would be a brilliantly audacious political move. Choosing Clinton would elate her fans, but would it be good for American foreign policy?
Nancy L. Cohen, 11.14.2008
Obama will not choose her because she's a woman. He will choose her because she has shown visionary leadership on two of the critical international (and moral) questions of our age.
Mark Nickolas, 11.14.2008
Sen. Clinton is obviously qualified and I think America would love to see a new government that wasn't simply made-up of cronies but of people with differing viewpoints who come together for the good of the country.
Madeleine M. Kunin, 11.16.2008
As a former Hillary supporter I would be delighted to see Hillary Clinton as the next Secretary of State. And I know that thousands of women, not only those who voted for her, would agree.
Steve Kettmann, 11.14.2008
choice of Hillary Clinton to be his Secretary of State would represent a great show of respect to our allies that he wants the best available person to handle the job of being his top diplomat.
Amitai Etzioni, 02.14.2008
Making a clear commitment to choose Clinton for secretary of state would add much to Obama's appeal, given that his experience in foreign policy is particularly short.
Robbie Gennet, 07.25.2008
Many people are talking about what VP choices await Barack Obama, but let's look one step further to Obama's Cabinet and whom he would put in charge of different areas of our country.
Scott Shrake, 11.11.2008
Even when I supported Hillary, I always liked Barack Obama -- especially his wry sense of humor, born of his being an outsider as a kid, I think, which I can relate to.
Ariston Anderson, 11.11.2008
The Glamour Women of the Year Awards filled Carnegie Hall with a slew of A-listers from the art world, Hollywood, and Washington, as well as some international activists ready to inspire the audience into...change.

I don't want to preempt but, why don't the Clinton's separate? Sure they care about each other, are family, but there is no husband and wife partnership. Now is the time Bill and Hillary should set each other free.
I agree with Hitchens. What experience does she have really beyond being Bill's wife and running an astoundingly nasty campaign? Bill still hasn't really answered -- where did he get the $ 100 million. I do not believe that speaking engagements alone net that kind of $$$.
Obama is smart. He knows that he must stay home and focus his first year on the economic crisis, healthcare, and energy initiatives. What other person can immediately open doors and obtain contacts to world leaders like Clinton. She has the cachet and the media star power to travel to various nations to begin mending the fences damaged by the Bush administration with their bully diplomacy. Kerry or Richardson would not get the press that Clinton would attract. If image is our problem, press coverage of Clinton is an excellent way for Obama to deliver foreign policy message worldwide.
Nothing wrong with a little intellectual honesty is their? Dog is not great, another great item advertised here is "THE GOD WHO WASN'T THERE" thanks for the link Hufpo...
How could this man of limited intellect dare call anyone an embarassment after 8 years of Bush and company.
